How it works

Three steps, about a minute

  1. Step 1: Add a photo

Upload a front-facing photo or use your camera. Good light, neutral face, lips closed.

  2. Step 2: Get mapped

Your browser places 478 points on your face and measures 22 proportions and angles.

  3. Step 3: Read your result

See your PSL range, three geometry scores, your eye type and every line we measured.

What PSL is

The PSL scale in plain words

Where it comes from
PSL is a 1–8 looks scale that grew out of online looksmaxxing forums. It is a community convention, not a scientific test.
How we use it
We keep the familiar 1–8 range and fill it with ratios you can check, each shown next to its typical range.
What a range means
Your free result is a range because one category, Misc, needs a look at skin and hair. The AI report narrows it to one number.

The four categories

Harmony, Dimorphism, Angularity and Misc

Harmony · 35%
Thirds, fifths, eye spacing, nose and mouth width, lip ratio and symmetry.
Dimorphism · 25%
Face width to height, jaw to cheekbone width, chin height and brow position against your chosen reference.
Angularity · 20%
Front-view jaw angle, chin taper and jawline straightness.
Misc · 20%
Skin, hair, brows and grooming. Rated in the AI report, open in the free test.

Reading PSL

What your PSL range means on this test

We ran this test on 101 adult faces that 2,513 people had rated. This is where the middle of their ranges fell.

Below 4
15% of the rated faces. Several measurements sit away from the typical range. A close-up or angled photo can do this on its own, so retake it with the tips below before reading much into it.
4 to 5
56% of the rated faces, the largest group. Proportions are close to typical with a few measurements outside the range. This is the ordinary middle of the scale.
5 to 5.5
20% of the rated faces. Most measurements sit near the values that better-rated faces in the study had.
5.5 and above
10% of the rated faces. Few measurements fall outside the typical range. The highest range we saw topped out at 6.2, which is why 7 and 8 are rare on geometry alone.

Photo tips

Get a steadier PSL reading

Most of the swing between two PSL results comes from the photo. Use the same setup each time.

Face the light
Stand facing a window or a lamp so both sides of your face are lit evenly. Light from one side or from above throws shadows that shift where the jaw, nose and eye corners appear, and a dark photo is rejected.
Hold the camera at arm's length
A phone held close to the face widens the nose and the middle of the face. Hold it at arm's length or prop it up a little further away, then crop if you need to. The ratios do not depend on how big your face is in the frame.
Keep your head level
Put the camera at eye level and look straight into the lens. A raised chin shortens the lower face and a lowered chin lengthens it. The test rejects photos with too much tilt or turn, so you will see a hint if this happens.
Neutral face, lips closed
Smiling lifts the cheeks and changes the mouth, eye and jaw measurements. Use a relaxed expression with your lips together and your eyes open as they normally are.
Show the whole face
Keep your full face in the frame from forehead to chin, push hair away from the jawline and take off glasses. Hats, hands and heavy filters hide the points the test needs.
Compare two or three photos
Every photo is a little different. Take a few in the same spot and look at the range they give you rather than trusting a single result.

Privacy and accuracy

Private by design, honest about limits

Your photo stays on your device

The free test runs inside your browser. Your photo is not uploaded, stored or sent to anyone, and we keep no copy of your scores.

How far to trust the numbers

Lighting, lens distance, head angle and expression all shift facial ratios. Take two or three photos and compare. The typical ranges and the 1–8 scale are set from 101 adult faces that 2,513 people rated for attractiveness (Face Research Lab London Set, DeBruine & Jones 2017, CC BY 4.0). On those faces the geometry score agrees with the ratings only in part, because proportions are only part of attractiveness.

FAQ

Questions people ask

What is a good PSL score?
The scale runs 1 to 8 and most faces land in the middle. Your range shows where your proportions sit; it is not a grade of your worth.
What does my PSL rating mean?
It places your measured proportions on the 1 to 8 scale. The range closes to one number once skin, hair and grooming are rated in the AI report.
Is the PSL scale scientific?
No. It is a convention from online communities. We fill it with measurable ratios and show our formula so you can see what drives the number.
Why do different PSL tests give different scores?
Each site uses its own formula and reference values. Ours combines four weighted categories; the weights and ranges are listed on this page.
Is this PSL test free?
Yes. No sign-up, no limit, and the photo stays in your browser.
Can I raise my PSL score?
Grooming, haircut and photo conditions change Misc and how ratios read in a photo. We do not promise a higher score and give no medical or surgical advice.
